The formation of the Network recognises that BME staff across the public sector share similar experiences and it is to our advantage to work together to change attitudes and bring improvements to the lives of local people.
Our alliance of BME networks and public service agencies is dedicated to promoting fair services free of racial discrimination. We are very grateful that so many BME leaders from the NHS, Ambulance Service and Fire Service have recognised that there is strength in unity.
EMBRACE AWARDS The Awards event is a highpoint of our year. Normally staged in October, Black History Month it is our opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to BME doctors nurses clinicians and community workers. BME staff have given so much to the NHS, which could not have been built without their hard work. Their efforts more than deserves recognition.
EMBRACE aims to encourage NHS employers to develop and implement good Race equality practice by agreeing to three simple pledges:
Pledge 1: Increase BME appointments at senior level.
Pledge 2: Improve the quality of BME staff and patients experiences.
Pledge 3: Implement good race equality practice and celebrate diversity.
PROACTIVE COMMUNITIES Big Lottery funded our Proactive Communities project which aims to support the wellness of local people with information and accessible therapies. The project focuses on the health and wellbeing of ethnic minority communities, but we hope anyone seeking to maintain a healthy lifestyles will benefit from the information found here.
